There are many reasons why I love working out with Ian. One is that he
takes me where I
never thought I would go. He would ask me to do things and I would
think – man, you
are one crazy SOB!! First of all, I am old, I am fat, and I am not an
athlete. Well, he
believes none of that. He treats me like I am an athlete-in-training;
believing in my
abilities even when I don’t. He also makes it fun because of his
personality but also by
mixing it up and always throwing something new at me. I swear, I think
he stays up
nights thinking of ways to “torture” me. But really it is because he is
passionate about
what he does and he transmits that to those he works with. He also
knows that it is all a
mind game and he works on your motivation. Because if you are not
motivated and not
doing this for the right reasons, no amount of personal attention is
going to get you where
you want to go.
"Ian is always upbeat, encouraging and has a
great sense of humor!"
I love working out with Ian! I have never felt so strong, athletic or
graceful. I love that when I started with Ian I could barely do 2 dips
or 1 push up and now I can do nearly 20 of each! Unbelievable! If you
had told me I would be doing squats and lunges without falling over – I
would have laughed at you! Now I am doing a boat load of each. The best
part is Ian makes me look forward to working out even though I end
curled up in fetal position, whimpering. Ian is always upbeat,
encouraging and has a great sense of humor. I love working out with
Ian!!

When the body is ready, the trainer will appear. That is how my
experience with Jason at
TLAC began. Last March (’08) after a 2-week vacation, I decided it was
time to make
some life style changes.
Just a few of the amazing changes I have noticed since training with
Jason are increased
stamina, muscle definition, and improved core strength. Recent
accomplishments include
hiking to the top of Silver Heels Mountain in Colorado, (elevation
13,888) cycling 65
miles in the Harvest Homecoming Ride, cycling 52 miles on my 52nd
birthday in
November, and an awesome day of downhill skiing in Breckenridge, CO
last week. No
altitude sickness here, only a Rocky Mountain high!

My name is Cindy Chambers and I have been a client of Ian McGriff's
since March 2009.
I decided I needed a trainer when I realized I had gained almost 50
during my
pregnancy! I had my beautiful baby girl in February then began with Ian
6 weeks later. I
had two big goals in addition to lots of smaller ones. My two big ones
were to first loose
the baby weight and second to become an athlete again, a triathlete
more specifically.
With Ian's state of the art knowledge in fitness and nutrition (not to
mention the uncanny
ability to always say the right thing JUST when you need it) I lost the
50 pounds I
gained- plus 5 more - in 5 months!!!!!! So check the first goal off my
list! As for my
second big goal, I competed in 5 triathlons so far this summer and I
was able to place
either over all or in my age group in every single one! Check number
two!
I believe that success in the health and fitness world is not only
about the physical but
also about the mental. A few of my smaller goals had to do with
breaking through mental
barriers that I have had for years! I must say
that while I feel Ian is an expert in every
way, this is where he shines! I have gained a
confidence I never thought possible and
because of that I have met athletic goals that
I've only dreamt about.
Ian never stops searching for the right words,
the most innovative workouts, and the latest
information on nutrition to help his clients
not only meet their goals but exceed them.
He also has knack for making it TONS OF
FUN!!!!
Thank you Ian for helping me to reshape my body, reshape my life and
reshape my
attitude! Life is Good!

"I used to think that working with a personal
trainer wouldn’t make much of a difference, but I was wrong!"
In the weeks since Ian McGriff and I started working together, I’ve
asked him to create several different workouts for me and I scheduled
time with him to make sure I was doing the workouts correctly. He’s
done a great job of helping me achieve my fitness goals and I find that
his knowledge, his sense of humor, and his very kind personality
strengthen my motivation and improve my athletic performance. I used to
think that working with a personal trainer wouldn’t make much of a
difference, but I was wrong! Working with Ian enhances my motivation
and I look forward to our training sessions as an opportunity for me to
learn from an expert. I’m getting stronger, my endurance has increased,
and I’m planning on continuing to work with Ian in 2007. I recommend
Ian so enthusiastically that I’ve listed the “Top Ten Reasons” to work
out with him as my humorous personal list of great results anyone can
get with Ian as a personal trainer-- With sincere thanks,

Last November, when my husband asked me if I still belonged to the gym,
I took offense. It was true, I was very busy with a two year old and a
seven month old and hadn’t gotten back in my exercise routine yet. It
was true that I hadn’t lost my pregnancy weight. And, I suppose, I had
complained about the toll pregnancies and age were taking on my body.
Still, I did have good intentions, so he needn’t make unpleasant
comments about my lack of exercise, right???
I shouldn’t have doubted his intentions, however, because on Christmas
it became clear why he had asked me if I still had a membership. One of
his gifts to me was personal training sessions with Ian. He truly
wanted to know if I was still a member before he purchased them. He
wasn’t trying to guilt me into exercising, and he didn’t want me to
feel badly for not being able to juggle one more thing into my
schedule.
In fact, he knew what I already knew and just needed help
remembering…that good intentions aren’t enough to keep me healthy and
that exercise will help me not only feel and look better, but relieve
stress and give me some needed “me time” away from the kids.
That being said, although I truly appreciated the gesture, I have to
admit, at first I didn’t love my gift. I had never had personal
training sessions before, and wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I
certainly didn’t have aspirations to become a triathlete, an Olympian,
or a supermodel, and those were the types of people I knew had
trainers.
I am a stay at home mom just wanting to get back into my pre-pregnancy
clothes, so weren’t personal training sessions a little overkill?
Surprisingly, I’ve come to find out, no. They haven’t been.
Ian has been great. He has motivated me, encouraged me, and pushed me.
I give him a hard time about trying to kill me, but he assures me that
he isn’t asking me to do anything he doesn’t believe I can. His
enthusiasm energizes me.
Don’t tell him, because if he knows I actually enjoy the exercises he
has me do, he may make me do more reps, but I do have fun during our
sessions. Our well-spent time together is fast-moving, light-hearted,
and, best of all, productive. (I’m fitting into my clothes!)
He has given me nutrition and cooking recommendations, shown me new
exercises to target specific areas, and instructed me on current
research concerning metabolism and supplements. I appreciate that he
listens to my concerns and tailors stretches and workouts to what I
need that week.
Ian loves what he does and it shows. He has a passion for helping
people achieve their goals – no matter how grandiose or mundane they
may seem to the average stay-at-home mom. I can now say I have come to
love my Christmas gift.
Thanks, Ian!

Life after college is always tough, you’re finding new jobs, figuring
out your place in the world, and trying to start this new life that you
always imagined you’d have. I had a hard time trying to figure out how
working out was going to fit into that equation and as a result gained
quite a bit of weight. The stress of this new life started to outweigh
my need to take good care of myself and to be honest- I felt so out of
the exercise loop that I didn’t even know how to get back on my game.
After starting my new job at QMIX and getting the opportunity to talk
to Ian about how I might be able to change my life I started to feel
like it was possible for me to get myself back to where I need to be. I
worried that working with a trainer would make me embarrassed about my
weight gain, that I would always feel guilty if I ate ice cream, or
didn’t go the gym one day. Instead Ian became a very close friend of
mine and I always feel like I can be totally honest with him. He
understands that my health isn’t just about my physical self or how
many minutes I’m on the treadmill but that my entire well being is
important to me being healthy. If I’m stressed out about something it
may cause me to eat poorly, skip workouts, or feel down on myself, so
he always makes sure to spend a few minutes asking what’s been going on
in my life, how I’m feeling, etc. There are days where he throws an
entire workout plan out the window because I have a sore muscle or have
had a bad day and instead works with what would be best for me. I never
expected a trainer to be so willing to form his routine to what would
be best for me instead of what he had planned that day. He is
constantly reaching and pushing for more knowledge on his craft- going
to seminars and reading books. He’s always got some new idea that might
help his clients more. Seeing someone so passionate about what they do
makes going to work out a great experience because you know he cares
about his job and also cares about you.
The most important thing I can say about my time with Ian is how much
I’ve changed. I am stronger than I ever believed I could be- even at my
most athletic I couldn’t do as many push-ups as I can do now and as per
my request he made sure I didn’t get “man arms”. I have a much better
concept of eating healthy as well. I make much more appropriate choices
and have seen the weight start to melt away. (Sure I’m not always
perfect but he doesn’t make me feel bad about that either because he
knows that we’re all human) The best part about my time with Ian is
that it makes me feel so good about myself- I am more confident and I
come home from the gym amazed at what I’m able to do physically and
proud of myself for what I’ve accomplished. My friends and family talk
about a noted difference and even they have started looking into
getting healthier themselves. Ian really has changed my life not just
my waistline and for that I will be incredibly grateful."
