Sexy Summer Body by Ian McGriff, P.T.

It’s summer time. It’s warm, sunny and beautiful outside. You don’t want to head into the gym to get your strength training in but you still need to do it. If only there’s a way that you can do you’re strength training outside…not a problem. Here’s all you need: one tubular resistance band with handles, playground equipment, and a readiness to work. Follow this program and you can get all of your upper and lower bodywork done in a creative and fun way.

Playground equipment is great to use because of its versatility for strength training. So find a large piece of equipment that gives you lots of options and as you progress you can become creative with your own playground.

Warm-Up - Jumping Jacks 50
Lunge 30
Dips 30 (Use park bench, platform, or step)
Pushups 20
Repeat

Squats with overhead press 30

(Stand on the resistance band with handles in hand at shoulder height. As you come to the top of your squat press overhead. Be sure to return hands to shoulder height slowly and with control)

Upright Row 30

(Place resistance band around a pole, stand shoulder-with apart making certain that there is enough resistance)

Repeat

Lat Pull Down 30

(Find a pole or other straight object that runs parallel with the ground like monkey bars. Wrap the tube around the pole, grab the handles and have a seat on the ground. Here you are in perfect position to perform a lat pull down)

Bicep Curls 30

(Place the band under your feet while holding the handles and curl)
Repeat Now you can get all of your strength training in without having to head to the gym on those beautiful summer days. Use this program to give yourself an alternative and some variety in your workouts. Then get creative with the playground equipment that you use and discover new ways to get in your exercises.
